<OT>Yes thats true y2k propelled these stocks as well as the shift to client server (which was a much larger phenom imo). Anyway I agree things look bad for us software people until after 2K minimum. And whole businesses - Im thinking of processware here - are not going to get off the ground. Weve been on a joyride in enterprise software for 8 years so this is not easy to read.

One thing, do people realize that software is pretty played out from a functionality standpoint right now. We have no real new products... front office is 4+ years old, theres SCM but thats being cannabalized by the ERPs etc. Otoh Dell is launching a whole new business in servers where I believe they will win big (of course thats an opinion).... if ERP software had a major new product offering (like Dell) we wouldnt be in this soup.
