Chat: Airline Stocks -
Susie, you know i don't mess around with TWA, but i have invested in both ALK (Alaska Air) and LUV (Southwest Air). I have also been following U (USAIR Group). Believe me, I know what the transportation average looks like over the past few months UGLY !!
but I really think that LUV and ALK in particular are great investment and/or trading stocks at these prices. I know recession is the new concern, and airlines, with fixed costs, are very susceptible to business slowdowns, but with low fuel costs, and the extreme hits that these stocks have taken, i think that most of the potential bad news is in the price of the stocks already. larrry

stuff

today was the opposite of yesterday
things shift fast
windy, very rough seas, all went wrong, not a tuna to be seen
caught a few small porbeagle sharks; in all my years of fishing I had never seen one of these before
they ripped up our gear without mercy
I had heard that they were as good to eat as mako and threasher shark which I love
so I steaked one out and cooked it on the grill when I got home
WRONG-YUK PHOOEY!!

wish I had been home for a few trades today
DSP, I would have jumped all over it near today's low, still a buy but not quite as good

ASND, man would I have loved this one in the 36 area, DAMN!

RCL
dumb mistake of the day; thought it might turn up
so put in a B/S for 1000 at 24 1/4
filled at the open at 24 3/8 then crashed big time on some jerk downgrading the leisure sector
cnnfn.com
if and when I have more time will post more on RCL but surfice it to say that I think it is way undervalued here
I have never lost money playing this stock; but there is always a first time; I'm down three grand on it as of the close
that buys a weeks cruise

Sue
>>>stocks you can buy and hold and have 95% no fear that they will come back; where is bottom no one can really answer that question, but common sense says one day they will be at bottom; now I am thinking of just getting some; if it goes lower ... get some more
then wait

sadly, bottom fishing has not worked well at all for a long time now
IMO range playing of solid good companies is the best game these days
take a peek at Mr Doe's portfolio
if I remember right he started with $100,000; is now over his alleged $350,000 cash available for investment; into margin now
keeps buying and buying; and holding and holding
and as in his previous life, is riding them to hell; waiting for the turn
I suppose if one buys the same stocks in the same sectors, year after year, up to a trillion $'s, and hold forever, one might make a buck or two this way
then again maybe not

the lesson that the market has taught me over many years is this:
if a method, a stock, a sector, etc etc, either does not work or stops working
CHANGE!!!!
the market changes every day, week, year
as Darwin said "Adapt or Perish"

have a good weekend all
out to look for the elusive Mr T again for the next few days
and fully intend to release all sharks, no more trying to eat them
see, even old dogs can change

>>on the other hand, there is US Air <

SSHHH - I try to keep all talk of US air out of this house. Elsa bought it at 17, and sold it on my say-so at 37. Since then I try to limit all talk about US air. When it gets back to 36 I'll tell her "See, good thing you sold it when I told you to."

Even assuming she wouldn't have sold at the high, she still left at least $30k on the table.

On the other hand, I did tell her to sell NKE at 68.

Maybe that evens it out.
