Not that I like taxes either (Don't tax you, don't tax me, tax the guy behind that tree), the 93 increase -- passed without any Republican support -- in conjunction with Bob Rubin's reputation, provided a lot of confidence that the Clinton administration was not going to be fiscally irresponsible. The subsequent reductions in the rate of budget growth, which it is fair to credit in large part to the Republican takeover in 94 was just enough to create an inflection point.

Ugh. Confidence, either oil or sand in the economic engine. I wish we could get off this cr*p because what is going on out there in the world - as bad as it is - could get a lot worse.

Since when do tax increases lead to a reduction in wasteful government spending... The economic properity can be traced to corporations trimming the fat in the last downturn and becoming more efficient. Of course, the politicians were the ones that decried this as being socially irresponsible. It led to a more competitive US economy. Unlike the idiots who run the government, business doesn't have the luxury of just raising prices when they feel like it. It's still the entitlements, stupid.
