Kevin, >>>Re: "nobody will trust AMD chips for any mission critical applications. Give us a break."

Intel retail PC share, 8/97: 84.3%
Intel retail PC share, 8/98: 54.3%

Retail = NOT mission critical. The computers AMD, and lower cost Intel chips go into are called "toys" by some. OTOH, servers are not quite big iron, but they're getting there. Let's see how many of the HPs, IBMs, Dells, Unisys', Compaqs, Fujitsus, Bulls, Sequents, etc. the K7 gets into as a serious server chip by next March. My money is on zilch.

Kevin, one thing about those August retail numbers, they do NOT include sales from direct retailers like Dell and Gateway, who are argueably the fastest growing PC retailers. Therefore, the 54+% number underestimates Intel's dominance in the retail market. Also, US retail sales account for maybe 10% of Intel's total revenues and I think they're more than making up for any decline with growth in other areas. Look for a STRONG 4Q forecast from Intel and the stock price back in the 90s very shortly thereafter.
