Re: "What is DEC's problem with alpha-21264? I thought that CPQ was advertising "buy" 533MHz alpha machine and upgrade to 21264 a while ago. Is this a vaporware? "

So far as I know, it's not clear what exactly keeps delaying the 21264 but it is at least a year late and due no sooner than November. Another delay could be in order. It appears that one of the main reasons for DEC's patent infringement suit against Intel last year was to get Intel to fab the 21264. DEC simply didn't have the process and todate no one else has either. Yes DEC is advertising "buy the 21164 and upgrade to a 21264 later". A 21264 will cost 10s of thousands of $$$$ when it eventually comes out. It has the best vapor benchmarks. The same can be said for the K7.
