Ed, Sorry for my ignorance-but what does "A.I." stand for? Clarify and I'll pass along the message. "Diversity" may seem like an overworked phrase in the late 90's- but it is coming very true on a global scale as people move and commingle more easily.

There are few countries in the world which are 100% one ethnic group, 100% one religious affiliation, or 100% one political party any more. The concept of "letting people be themselves- live and let live", is a western concept, but a very good concept.

That is why I think the Islamic Fundamentalists to be jarringly out of touch with the geopolitical realities of the late 20th Century, as do many people in the Middle East and Africa.

Honestly I feel Omar Bashir is probably a rational person, and somewhat willing to accommmodate people who "aren't like him". Hassan Al-Turabi is more of a fanatic and idealogue who will not accept non-Muslims in Sudanese society.

If the Christian minority in the Sudan were say only 2-3% of the population such as in Pakistan, then that would be one thing. Here 40%+ of the population base of the Sudan is non-Muslim and from centuries of bad experience has absolutely no desire to be involved with Islam.

You simply can't have 40% of your population living under a legal system/ Sharia Law where they are literally officially disenfranchised by the Government from all basic freedoms such as commerce, freedom of motion, right to worship, freedom in one's personal safety and well being, etc.

Until those issues are addressed, then there will be no peace in the Sudan.....

Sincerely,

Doug F.
