There's a link worth repeating. All 3 or 4 companion articles from NCWorld (now defunct) "first 10 minute" series by Nick Petreley are worth reading. I understand that Petreley is about to launch a major online ezine in the very near future.

Regarding the Friday SUNW close; SFA warning and HP announcing layoffs didn't help on a Friday during the quiet period, but I bet that this mystery acquisition item was good for a few points off of where SUNW might have otherwise closed.

It's been "software, software, software" for quite a few acquisitions in a row now. Between that and the apparent forward windfall for Solaris, you'd think that the street would begin assigning more of a software type PE.

Also, regarding the lack of Solaris (particularly x86 Solaris) open source binaries, there's a new SunWorld article on Solaris freeware.

They obviously 'get it'. They just need to get ON it. Relative to what's available for Linux and FreeBSD on any number of sites, the x86 freeware offering from Sun is pathetic.
