I have wondered why MU has not pursued the Rambus project with more vigor. One comment from a friend was that with the EDRAM, the .21um, .18um, Rendition and now the TI deal they may very well be running low on technical resources.

Another thought: if you read what Appleton said in the Electronic Business Report for Oct. 98' they may feel it is not time to devote production resources to it. But INTEL needs a cheap source for these products and ALL companies will eventually pay for it, one way or another.

I personally believe the first scenario. They are stretched to the MAX right now. The personnel they are sending to Italy are some of the strongest technical people at Micron; at least for making processes work. You have to remember the R&D group is a very small part of the complete package there and their responsibility for developing new, better and smaller parts are limited. Also I am sure their FAB 4, which is R&D only is stretched to the walls with new product and testing of old.

Bottom line, and the end of the rambling is they just are not ready. Why? Too many pies in the oven and not enough cooks.
