Re: "Also some SPEC numbers on the monster chip would be interesting.
If it is a massive chip but it's performance sucks compared to the new Alpha's then HP's chip could be slow and expensive.

Some actual facts rather than HYPE would be great."

Here is the only mention of 21264 pricing I can find.

digital.com

"Those who purchase an AlphaServer 8X00 5/625 system by September 25, 1998 also can order a 21264 CPU upgrade at 30 percent off the list price (U.S. $65,000) of the upgrade board. "

It sure looks to me like a 21264 goes for $65,000 for 30 SpecInt95. Am I misreading something here? This is probably a multiprocessor board but it doesn't say that it comes stuffed. If this figure holds, and it may not, then compare it to a Pentium II where you can get a fully loaded system ~$2,000. The 450mhz Pentium II comes in at 17.2 SpecInt95. What if you had a group of 30 designers all wanting to do logic simulation. You could buy 30 complete Pentium II systems for the cost of a single 21264 motherboard. If you went with the Alpha, you'd still need 31 terminals.

I hope someone can find some prices for the 21264 we can rely on. I know the numbers I posted can't be very reliable.

kash - Re:" Some actual facts rather than HYPE would be great."

Looks like you are being your DISENGENUOUS SELF, kash.

You ask for performance facts for the HP PA-8500 yet you PERSONALLY HAVE POSTED MANY CLAIMS about the K7 performance and how it is superior to any Intel chip - yet

YOU, Kash, YOU DISENGENUOUS BLOW HARD, HAVE POSTED NOT A SINGLE PIECE OF K7 DATA.

Take YOUR CLAIMS OF DISENEGNUOUS BEHAVIOR AND PAINT THEM ON YOUR FACE - WHERE THEY BELONG - johal the know-it-all.
