After analyzing Clinton's conflicting public comments, Komp said she thinks
Clinton is ''more uncomfortable telling the truth than when he is lying.''

In new book, Yale doctor examines
why people lie

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) A Yale University professor believes she knows
why people like President Clinton lie, and she is fessing up in a new book.

In ''The Anatomy of a Lie: The Truth About Lies and Why Good People Tell
Them,'' Professor Diane M. Komp of the Yale School of Medicine says people
actually lie quite often to protect themselves from punishment or
embarrassment, to protect their own fantasies about themselves or to protect
others....

....Komp questions Clinton's claims of privacy in his relationship with Lewinsky,
saying lies affect other people.

''I happened to have voted for him, but I happen to be hoping that he will resign
because I think his ego is running ahead of national interests and international
interests,'' she said.

After analyzing Clinton's conflicting public comments, Komp said she thinks
Clinton is ''more uncomfortable telling the truth than when he is lying.''

''When Clinton wagged his finger and said 'I did not have an improper
relationship with that woman,' the way his body language and words worked
together suggested that he was telling the truth,'' Komp said.

''But in his Aug. 17 speech, when he revealed the truth, ... he couldn't keep eye
contact. He couldn't sit still.''......

Hi Michelle Harris; About those secret police... Funny that you associate the term with "militia and fascist governments." I associate it with communists. :)

I think of the term as describing an enforcement group that operates hidden from view, and which is primarily performs intimidation. If the citizens are afraid enough, they are much easier to control.

But that is the nature of what Clinton is accused of operating. The incident involving the disappearance or death of Willey's cat, the non-burglary of Gracen's hotel room, etc.

You get these sort of operations when you hire a shady character, (like that guy they hired to comb through the FBI files, Livingstone(sp)) and then tell him something like: "If that woman talks about our affair, it would damage me politically." Then the guy goes out and does what has to be done. Generally not very pretty, sometimes criminal.

P.S. Bets against the Clinton presidency... Those who are sure he is going to be forced out are probably shorting the market, or at least getting out. Besides that, go long cigars, long Tandy/Radio Shack, long the internets, short regular TV, and long on things that would be supported by a republican presidency in '00. Bets for Clinton would be the opposite...
