And I'm not saying that Microsoft will corner every market, its just that many of the net specific functions that the Yahoo's of the world have filled cannot survive the long term assault by Microsoft, at least not at their present levels. Microsoft did not put netscape out of the browswer market, but they did force them to change their business model. And their stock price, by about 90% to the downside.

Poor old Marc Andreessen. A couple years ago he was worth hundreds of millions..

David Filo and Jerry Yang seem to be good enough people, (i've actually spoken with and done business with Jerry on a first name basis, around a year ago) but are they going to be worth a billion dollars each in 2 years? Not bloodly likely, unless they take a cue from Bezos and hedge their holdings. :)

>>Looks like Yahoo's business model could be zero'd out.

You don't understand. MSN must compete on the merits. They can't zero-out Yahoo's market.

OC,

A few corrections:

And then we come to Amazon. A low margin bookseller who has a website, 600
employees, and a market cap of 9 billion.

Amazon now has 1000 employees.

And dont forget barnes and noble, with very very deep pockets (and no 300
million of junk bond debt coming due in a few years)..

I believe the junk bond debt is between $500 and $550 million. I would to look to be specific. It is much higher that $300 million.

Amazon has already said they
expect their marketshare to decline, and it HAS, from around 90 percent 6 months ago to
60 percent today.

We should see it being below 50% when Q3 98 is announced.
