In the last four quarters, INTC's announcement only indirectly had an affect on LSI in one quarter. That was 1Q '98. LSI's announcement will affect LSI, and very little else will affect LSI.

I think INTC will report good things but that's just a guess (though
affected just a tad by their 10% revenue growth + the release that they would be beating earnings estimates <g>). Usually good news releases are underplayed by the companies initially so I would suspect
them to beat whatever estimate is now on the books.

I do agree that if they don't or if they mention Q4 is doubtful it is game over since it might be seen as more proof of a weak global economic environment.

Therefore, INTC's report should be viewed as a positive because it removes the possibility of a sector-wide dumping of chip stocks.
