Christopher:

As a long-time lurker on the TATRADER thread, currently trying to get time to put myself through the proper self-discipline and study to begin to understand and analyse on a TA basis, I am not qualified to be an effective contributor to the thread's analysis. But, as a long time investor of significant trading volume, I can comment on on-line firms and echo Mark's comments completely.

I have personal, corporate and trust accounts with Brown & Co. and have found their service quite acceptable. The relatively plain, unencumbered displays of their system are a great plus to me, although many prefer something fancier with graphics, color, etc. - but IMHO the only really important things are ease of use and speed and accuracy of execution. Brown & Co. generally excels in these areas, although sometimes things slow down a bit at times of extremely high activity.

I also maintain several accounts with E*Trade so that I can trade Canadian exchange issues and because E*Trade services Simple-IRA's, which Brown & Co. does not. E*Trade's system and displays are much more comprehensive and fancier, but their response is not as good as Brown & Co.'s. Their recent system upgrades, to me, are a step backwards in that they have added a lot of fancy display that makes things longer to load and offer me no better trading efficiency. E*Trade's administrative accuracy in servicing the Simple-IRA accounts often leaves much to be desired, but they are responsive when errors are brought to their attention. As a young firm they have experienced some growing pains, but apparently are coping with them.

Hope that the above will be of help to you. Sorry to intrude with some much OT comment, but its Saturday.

To Mark, Rashid, Skane and the others who are so generous with sharing their analysis and insights - Thanks. Hopefully, some day I will be able to contribute, rather than to just lurk and learn.

Steve
