Fair enough. You are right to be bothered by excessive optimism on threads, but you have to give people leeway and respect the energy they put in. I have worked in the oil business for 14yrs and know a lot about my particular specialized part of the business; but I sure have learned a lot about the oil world outside from threads like this.

I think it was in "Whirlwind" - James Clavell's epic novel about the middle east that one of his Russian spy characters made an astute observation. He said that "oilfield engineers knew a hell of a lot about their business but they knew nothing about anything else!"
