You're absolutely wrong about that, Michael. Why do you hate the NEA so much, anyway? I don't think you have really ever explained why. You use this group like a scapegoat for absolutely everything that is wrong with education. I don't agree with their position on tenure for teachers, but certainly there are many fine educators who belong to the NEA. Educators, like any group, need some political clout, and the NEA represents that for teachers.

Anyway, what I was saying is that my daughter is in a charter school, and they are absolutely independent from the rest of the school district, except that they inhabit public buildings and need to provide a safe learning environment for children. They don't choose the same books, and in fact my daughter's physical science class doesn't even use books. Charters are very complex contracts which are binding. You really should do some research before you make assumptions that are not accurate.
