Hi Daniel Schuh; When you ask why Tripp recorded those tapes you are still avoiding the issue of what the President did. Our country has a long history of allowing its citizens to contribute information to law enforcement. I don't know what percentage of cases get solved because someone squealed to the police but it has to be way up there, at least from my reading of the newspapers. It seems that criminals just can't keep their mouths shut. Monica certainly couldn't keep hers. I can understand why people find it hard to see why Tripp would drop a dime on her "friend." The reason is obvious, I think. Lewinsky wasn't her friend. They were coworkers. Enough already with the motivation analysis. Take a look at the motivations of the other side, for once. Once I saw a stupid minor traffic accident. A car was rear-ended. I was in a position to see that the car in front had caused the accident by changing lanes without signaling. I stopped and gave my business card to the inhabitants of both cars so that they could call me as a witness. I know that I set myself up for some inconvenience, but I like to imagine that there would be someone out there to ensure that I receive justice from the courts when I need a witness someday. I see Tripp's actions as similar. She did what was right in the face of a huge number of reasons to avoid doing so. Tripp could have kept her recordings, and then published a book without going to whoever she did. (Minor question: Did she go to Starr or someone else with the tapes?) Instead, she took the hard road of going up against Goliath. The most powerful man in the world. She is a brave lady. Our country also has a long history of allowing its citizens to make money from book deals. For instance, look at what all the participants in the OJ trial did. The First Lady wrote a book too. This is normal. We live in a capitalist society, and this is what you have to expect. Big deal. As far as why Tripp recorded, I think this question is not significant, but that it is obvious that she was in a position where she would be called to testify. Why not? Everybody else was being called. -- Carl
