Nortel Networks Signs Corporate-wide VoIP Agreement With Telogy Networks October 5, 1998 SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation -- Oct. 2, 1998 Implementation Brings IP Access to the Meridian 1 Switch Telogy Networks Inc.(R), the leading provider of embedded communications software, Friday announced that Nortel Networks(a) (NYSE:NT/TSE:NTL) has signed a corporate agreement to license Telogy's Golden Gateway(TM) Voice over IP (VoIP) embedded communications software. The agreement enables product developers throughout Nortel Networks' business units to easily access and integrate Telogy's VoIP software into Nortel Networks' communications products. The agreement also sets standard corporate-wide pricing and terms for Golden Gateway. Nortel Networks is first implementing Golden Gateway in the Meridian(a) Integrated IP Telephony Gateway, which will expand Nortel Networks' Power Networks(a) portfolio. Through the power of Golden Gateway, real-time voice and real-time fax calls will be routed over IP data networks, rather than through the public telephone network. Organizations using the Meridian gateway to send voice and fax traffic over IP networks will decrease communications costs by reducing the number of lines required to support voice and fax traffic. Telogy's Golden Gateway Voice over IP software, embedded on a digital signal processor and microprocessor, provides communications equipment developers scalable Voice and Fax over IP, ATM or Frame Relay solutions. Telogy's multi-function, multi-channel capabilities support up to four simultaneous channels and allow multiple voice and fax calls to be dynamically allocated and processed in a single digital signal processor (DSP). "This agreement with Telogy Networks will enable Nortel Networks' system engineers and product developers to easily access the core VoIP technology that will power many mission-critical IP-enabled products," said Jim Eng, Nortel Networks' director of Software Technology, Meridian. "Nortel Networks is at the forefront of the VoIP revolution, developing the networks that will allow the movement of voice and fax traffic to data networks," said Joseph A. Crupi, president and CEO of Telogy Networks. "As a supplier of Voice over IP embedded communications software to Nortel Networks, Telogy is committed to exceeding Nortel Networks' expectations for delivering VoIP solutions that will drive the development of this new industry. " Bill Hills, Senior Analyst, Customer Interaction Software for Aberdeen Group, commented, "Nortel has made it abundantly clear that they want the best in IP technology, and with Telogy's very comprehensive solution they get a lot of it right away. This is a good move for Nortel customers."
