Patrick:

Yes LSI is in the PC DVD market - I just do not know
the scope. I think Margi bases the chip on LSI's plus
LSI has Dell's notebook line. Not sure if LSI wants or aims
to do the real low-end stuff. Agree absolutely that the DVD-ROM
market will be huge. Several million this year and really exploding
next few years. I think CD-ROMs will be phased out sometime around
2001 or so and then each PC will be bundled with a DVD-ROM so there's
an indication of the size of the market. Sure would be nice for LSI
to get in here somehow. One catch is that INTC wants to do the Soft
DVD thing and thereby reduce or eliminate the need of a hardware
based solution. It may certainly happen sometime in the future but
there should nevertheless be robust demand for PC DVD cards and add ons for some time to come - my guess is this is where LSI plays but
I am not sure.

Shane.
