[Advanced Radio Telecom Appoints Robert S. McCambridge as Chief Financial Officer]

BELLEVUE, WASH. (October 21, 1998) -- Advanced Radio Telecom Corp. [NASDAQ:ARTT] announced today that effective October 27, 1998, Robert S. McCambridge will assume the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer of ART. ART utilizes a state-of-the-art broadband wireless and ATM/IP network to provide advanced data communications services to off-fiber businesses.

"Bob's past experience in communications and his extensive involvement in mergers, acquisitions and financing, as well as his excellent rapport with all sectors of the financial community, will be invaluable as we execute our new strategy. We have totally reformed the top management team at ART, which is now comprised of seasoned executives experienced in building communications enterprises. It is well worth the time it has taken to put this outstanding group together."

McCambridge brings over 15 years of general and financial management experience to ART. Most recently, he was executive vice president of One Comm, formerly Cable Plus Holding Company, headquartered in Bellevue, Wash.

Previously, McCambridge was treasurer and vice president of corporate development for Control Data Corporation, where he managed the company's highly successful restructuring and recapitalization to create Ceridian Corporation and Control Data Systems. In addition, McCambridge has over ten years of investment banking experience with technology companies. He was a senior vice president and director of corporate finance at Dain Bosworth, Inc., and a partner at Drexel Burnham Lambert.
