Brazil needs to somehow change investor sentiment; if that can be accomplished, it has at least some chance. But as I keep looking at
the situation, the proposed fiscal policy changes suggested carry
in my mind a possibility of a recession; which in some sense will defeat its purpose inasmuch as tax revenues will likely be negatively affected. If so, it is possible that the deficit would increase.

A very difficult situation. Particularly since Cardoso, for the most part,
followed prudent economic policy. Yet I must admit the gov't seemed
to drop the ball a bit last year; perhaps alternatives would be better if that had not occured. In any event, I hope he gets the political support to do what he thinks need be done.

Good luck to you fellows. I hope it works out. Steve, keep plugging
with those informative posts.

Regards,

Tundra

Of course, I mistakenly neglected importance of the presence of an IMF package. Good luck on that as well.

I should not be posting this late; my thoughts become muddled. <g>
