Michael, I think the Prez should appoint Monica to the IMF.

She may not solve anything but

1: She would have a job
2: The press would be able to feed on both stories at one time
3: The press would follow her out of the country.

Tell that to (1) the people in Hawaii that provide tourist services to Japanese (who have stopped coming so often); (2) the memory manufacturers; (3) the steel producers; (4) anyone who wants to export -- particularly capital goods producers.
Once you tip an expanding economy over, as the Fed seems determined to do you can't tip it back when the rest of the world is plunged in depression (one FOMC member wanted to raise interest rates at the August meeting and no one wanted to cut them.)
