biz.yahoo.com

This is one of the new products due in the 4Q that customers (the company claims) have been waiting for, and it will ship 4-6 weeks into the quarter:

>>Avid Xpress for Windows NT is scheduled to begin shipping in early November 1998 through Avid's worldwide
reseller network. USMSRP for Avid Xpress is $24,999 with the Deluxe Bundle and $39,999 with the Elite Bundle.
USMSRP for the 16:9 Editing Option and the Avid Xpress Matchback Option are $4,999 and $3,000, respectively.
Avid is planning an upgrade program for current MCXpress(TM) users who want to upgrade to Avid Xpress for
Windows NT, with details announced in late October.<<

Bruce,

I agree that the margin decline is a major nasty surprise that has probably been the main contributor to the price decline. Everyone expected a revenue slowdown as people delayed orders waiting for the next generation systems in Q4. Perhaps some very aggressive discounting was done in Q3 to keep revenues flowing. I don't know.

The downward move took me by surprise (although luckily I had a stop loss order that got me out the day before at 23 - I was very lucky).

Because of the margin surprise, I'm a little skittish about getting back in, even at this price, until I know what is going on. At the risk of missing a price jump, I will probably wait until the earnings conf. call to hear an explanation of what is going on before considering buying back in.
