There is a big difference, IMO. I think it is very misleading to paint a benign picture of slavery, saying that a majority were indentured servents and could actually become part of the family. Slavery is a very ugly and horrid thing. there may have been cases of indentured servitude, but it is misleading to color all of slavery with that particular brushstroke.

Also, there is a large difference between allowing men to commit evil through freedom of choice, and God laying out regulations for it. That is condoning it, within guidelines!!!!!

This is just one example of aspects of the Bible that I can not take literally. There are many more. Since my heirtage is Jewish, I am much more aware of examples in the O.T.

In the O.T., God is ruthless, jealous, angry, and spiteful, with a sense of justice that is nothing that I can even remotely relate to.
