Joseph,
"if the masses percieve that things are getting worse at home it is all over but the shouting. the do-nothing republicans will capture seats easily in both houses."
Actually, I think they should be called the "la-la-land republicans". Its going to be interesting to see which force is stronger in the voting public, the sense of absurdity over this impeachment process "looking for an impeachable crime" or the sense of an impending possible economic crunch.

Gee I'd really like to see Newt in charge of the US when there is economic crisis, we'd be in really solid hands then<vbg--very big groan>.

Dear Joseph - yes, you are quite right that the masses have held back some of their personal morality [not I, I ve none of it <VBG>] b/c the Main Street is relatively happy. However, I think it would be a grave mistake if all the eleplant men <VBG> were to sit on their hands [or trunks] hoping the economy would do the President in [of which they have failed for the past 6 years] cuz the people on Main Street would smell a rat when there was one.

If I were their politico-economic strategist, helping the President to stop the tidal wave of economic collapse is the lesser of the two evils. By doing so, they have allowed the lame duck president to sit for a little longer. However, if the economy were to go busted, they would go down with the President while the donkey riders would pump up [and out] the votes. In other words, they can ill afford to allow the dems to get out of the middle class slumber.

best, Bosco

This is a good thing? The full-court press is on by the clinton people to get the IMF funding. can't help but feel that this is desperation time for clinton.

It sure hasn't done much for the other countries that received IMF funding. I can hardly wait until they 'help' Brazil into a major recession. Not that Clinton won't get this stuff approved. I get the feeling that Newt will give in or be found floating face down in a river soon. Clinton isn't 'the man' for nothing.
