"Thrustmaster looks to new line for recovery"

The maker of computer video game controllers plans a foray into the Nintendo and Sony PlayStation market

Stung by the fickle ups and downs of the computer industry, Hillsboro's ThrustMaster Inc. is looking for a little comfort in the arms of a larger market.

In the next month, the maker of video game controllers for personal computers will launch an all-new line of products aimed at the lucrative Nintendo and Sony PlayStation market.

"Candidly, we don't know how fast and how big we can be in that," chief financial officer Frank Hausmann said. "The goal is to grab as much market share as fast as we can."

ThrustMaster is staring into its prime opportunity — the 1998 holiday season..."The next two to four weeks is a positive point for us as far as getting all the products we have that are going to redirect us for the holiday season and beyond," said Ron Resnick, vice president of marketing...More changes are on the way...The company plans to unveil a new Internet strategy late this year or early next year.

Resnick won't disclose details but said ThrustMaster will employ a strategy tied to the game conferencing technology it worked on with Intel, a Web site for electronic commerce and partnerships with other companies..."
