I don't know what the current configuration of their funding bills. It looks like the Republicans are placing tax breaks, etc. into the bills that Clinton wants to veto for a continuation of his "Wag the Dog" strategy. It's the contrary strategy of the Democrats' strategy of placing objectionable legislation into bills and forcing Republican presidents to veto and force a shutdown. Making sausage probably is prettier than politics.

<<With the republicans not only do you get pandering to the
AARP, but you also get the RR in your bedroom!

Michelle, let me tell you about my experience with AARP. They are the most well oiled Democrat machine around. I used to get all their mail because, somehow, they know the DAY you turn 50 and they start mailing you information IMMEDIATELY. I've never seen such scare tactics in my life....accusing the Republicans of wanting to take their SS away and cut back on Medicare and this and that...all Government programs that they wanted to protect!!! I never joined AARP and finally got tired of their propaganda. I called their office and asked to be taken off their mailing list. I finally had to threaten to SUE if I saw their name in my mailbox again UNSOLICITED!!! They were a danger to my health because every time I read their mail, my blood pressure went up! It took 6 months for the mail to stop coming. Trust me, the AARP are not friendly to Republicans and they ARE a very powerful group...for the Democrats!!!!

Michelle <<OT>> re: Taxes and seniors. Been out of the good ol' USA for a few days, got back and started getting caught up - can't resist this one:

"With the republicans not only do you get pandering to the AARP, but you also get the RR in your bedroom! . . . Seniors are demographically the most well off segment of society thanks to their voting bloc support of redistribution of wealth from the young to the old."

First, you can present statistics selectively to make a point, but when you do, it is either confusion and ignorance or purposeful deceit. You are using the factor of net worth in that statement and trying to make an apples to apples comparison when there is none. Net worth includes things like home values, not just cash on hand and income. People who have been paying for their homes for many years or have paid them off completely have a statistically high net worth, BUT - they have a statistically lower INCOME. Guess which of those two things you can spend for things like food? What's more, they have almost no opportunity to materially improve their income through work. Unlike yourself and those of us who can still move upward through the corporate ladder or have businesses of our own to draw a living from, the seniors really aren't going to see many opportunities come to them.

Secondly, while not a member of the AARP, it is clear that they have been successfully terrified by the liars in the Democratic spin machine to the degree that I don't think they have a traditional party affiliation with the "evil" Republicans.

Knowing your disdain for older people from a prior discussion, it is clear you really want to find someone to blame for your situation, and the current target of opportunity seems to be people older than yourself.

Mr. K.
