From the Cowan Report...

Given that these are data-intensive companies
and that 75% of Cisco's revenues come from large customers with highly
complex networking needs, slower sales of less complex products hurts
margins.

Really? Uh... I think they have this backwards. Furthmore Cisco has been moving upstream. So I would expect 3COM to get hurt a bit more...Where was that downgrade?

Cowen also recently published a report linking 30% of changes in
networking industry spending to changes in developed economy growth rates.

30% of the changes are attributed to changes in growth rates in developed countries... So, I guess this is what lead to the .02 downgrade equally a market cap reduction of ... what... $10B. Hmmmmm.... My calculator doesn't work that way. Who's adding the extra zeros...?
In addition to this, Y2K spending was also named as a possible reason
for a change in IT spending, which is another highly plausible idea.

Grasping at straws. Any enterprise in their right minds - at least the ones Cisco does a significant portion of their business with, has dealt with this issue already. The ones that might still be at issue are the ma and pa shops - the 3COM buyers. Y2K is an excuse to support their pathetic opinion. Kind of like Jach.. throwing everything out they can think of to justify the downgrade.

Real reason for the downgrade. Cowan want in.. they want in cheap. They downgrade, get the last sellers out and will begin acquiring stock this week.
