Tim,

You keep making religious assertions to validate your desire to stop others from doing what you think is wrong. No court in this country accepts the argument "Because God says so!" Thank God. If rights are meaningless than I guess we should shred the Constitution and go back to the Law of the Jungle which of course has only one statute..."Fill your belly however you can."

The fact is that lots of people do lots of things that other people don't like. My neighbor didn't like it when we had our woodlot logged a couple years ago. You don't like it when a Native American tribe wants to harvest a whale. Lacking evidence that either act endangers a species or ecosystem my neighbor's and your dislike of the proposed action(s) is simply beside the point. Your belief that whales are "higher" and my neighbor's belief that trees are "sentient" are also beside the point.

I consider it an "abomination" that anyone would vote for a Democrat or to a slightly lesser extent a Republican but I certainly won't be proposing that we ban either act, even though it could be argued that voting for a Democrat and to a lesser extent a Republican endangers the species called the free American.

Actually, Tim, from what I have gleaned of your spiritual beliefs I think mine are fairly similar but if we impose them on others we will have a theocracy and I don't think either of us wants that. Ken Beals' suggestion and the action he took is exactly correct in this matter. He asked the tribe to not hunt the whale and look at ways to profit from the whales without killing any. He even sent some money.
I would rather they didn't kill any whales but if we stop them for what are purely emotional reasons next time we will be going after the "Bambi killers" or those heartless fishermen and then of course we will outlaw cattle ranching. Where will it stop?
