Because while Yahoo's good earnings announcement will cause Amazon to rise in the short term, there is nothing they can do about Amazon's OWN actual earnings which will be released later this month. Everyone knows they are horrible. Sure, they'll probably show increased revenue but everything else is falling apart. Margins, cost of sale, massive debt that they have no way to pay off besides offering stock, lowering marketshare (95% to 60% in the last 6 months) and most importantly, Junglee/Planetall insiders have already shown they have no intention of hanging on to their stock, they filed an S-8 friday registering 3 million shares which is basically the equivalent of "I WANT TO SELL THIS STOCK NOW"

Vinik is not a dumb guy. He knows when the game is up- and that date is the Amazon earnings release. Until then, this stock could go anywhere- but probably higher. Depends on how quickly and violently the junglee/planetall insiders want out.
