<<I dont personally feel that spirituality involves seeing how much you can torrture yourself to gain a higher understanding. In fact, I feel its exactly the opposite. I think getting as close as possible to unconditional love is the key to gaining a higher path and understanding.>>

Me either. But don't you think there are tests of faith we undergo in this life. I mean, there are rewards for us in this life and those rewards are meant to be enjoyed based on having disciplined ourselves so that we earn them. Don't you think we are given responsible limits to enjoy them. Don't eat or drink to excess, don't be greedy, etc. You're not suggesting that unconditional love includes condoning abusiveness are you. That's what we start to see when individuals don't hold themselves to any limitations. In the case of the excessiveness of my children, I impose limitations and consider that a form of unconditional love; because I am willing to take on part of the struggle to become decent human beings with them. It would be much easier to just smile and go along with everything they do; well...at least until they got so big and spoiled that they could torture me for it.
