ESV is expected to earn $1.00 next year. A bear on ESV thinks
that they'll earn only 30 cents next year which is 16 cents
below the lowest Street estimate. O.K., let's use 30 cents
as an example(which is probably significantly understating
actual EPS). This is $43,000,000. Just for fun, I took
YHOO's 1999 estimate of 46 cents, multiplied it by the number
of shares outstanding and guess what- YHOO is expected to
earn $43,000,000 next year. So, if ESV comes in 70% below
expectations for the entire year, they'll still earn what
YHOO is expected to earn. Why YHOO sports an 11.786 Billion
market cap, while poor ESV commands a measly 1.418 Billion
market cap is beyond me. Maybe if ESV changes its name
to Ensco-Online or starts selling rigs on line, the market
cap will increase by a factor of 10-30 fold.
