I agree with you, except that is is clear that the consequences to date were not anticipated - no one expected things to turn out he way they did. However, again, agreeing with you, come the recession here, it will be the American taxpayers who fork out big-time. The motivation is remarkably consistent: self interest, and you and I are not in the drivers' seats.

To quote Gordon Gecko, "Greed is good!", but only if things don't go horribly wrong. We're getting there (going horribly wrong), slowly but surely.
