brees,

What bothers me on this type of stand on the Hadith is that it has to be considered a important Islamic writing. It has to go hand and hand with the Qu'ran.

You say why? Well here's the proof as far as I could tell:

Message 5883213

Without the Hadith, in this case, standing only on the Qu'ran, the people refrained from performing Tawaf between Safa and Marwa because it was not mentioned in the Qu'ran. But in the Hadith it said, "Allah revealed: "Verily As-Safa and Al-Marwa are among the symbols of Allah." So without the Hadith, you would perform Tawaf incorrectly. So in this case you needed the Hadith.

So we must hold Hadith in high regard here, but in other cases we must take it that the Hadith does not pass the authenticity requirements that the Islamic community typically maintains. Isn't this a big problem????

I do know many Islamic people that do consider the Hadith in very high regard, and view it as a necessary and un-substitutable companion to the Qu'ran.

I look forward to your response on this issue......

God Bless,
Steve

PS- Where did Raymond go? I would like to know his position on all these issues.......
