Telecom Business '98 Sets Conference and
Exposition Record for Converging Telecom
Market

October 6, 1998

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation -- With exhibitors and attendees representing every segment of the new competitive telecom industry, Telecom Business(TM) '98 New York established itself as the leading conference and exposition for the converging telecom marketplace. More than 12,000 attendees filled the meeting rooms and exhibit hall, Sept. 1-3, 1998, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, to take advantage of the 14 keynote speakers, 57 conference sessions and 213 exhibiting companies. "This show is visionary in the sense that you're seeing for the first time in one place a true convergence of all aspects of telecommunications," said Mickey Freeman, director of marketing for Sprint.

Exhibitors, consisting of CLECs, LECs, IXCs, ISPs, ITSPs and IP telephony firms, cable and utility companies and representatives of the financial community, met the needs of attendees, who were equally diverse. Carriers, network service providers and resellers comprised 59 percent of those attending, while 63 percent of all attendees were made up of corporate and general management. Exhibitors cited the presence of decision-makers as a critical element in their success at the show.
"We've seen clients directly from the corporate environment, corporate customers -- end-user clients as well as wholesale customers -- that need to purchase dial tone, running the gamut from debit card platforms to Internet telephony providers to ISPs," Tony Leggio of Focal Communications said. "We've actually signed upwards of ten T-1s in the show. That has paid for the show after the first day."

The keynote roster featured top industry leaders addressing critical issues in the telecom industry. Joe Nacchio, president/CEO of Qwest Communications, proclaimed that the change from an industrial age to an information age is just beginning, while Howard Jantzen, president/CEO of Williams, predicted that with adequate bandwidth, the senses of smell and touch would join sight and sound as transmittable items. Fred Fromm, president of Siemens Telecom Networks, announced that the PSTN would not go away, while Tom Evslin, chairman/CEO of ITXC, felt that circuit switched technology has reached the limits of its usefulness. Keynote speakers including Dave McCourt, CEO, RCN; Don Listwin, executive vice president, Cisco Systems Inc.; Sol Trujillo, president/CEO, US West; Chris Edgecomb, chairman/CEO, STAR Telecom and Scott Baxter, president/CEO, Icon CMT Corporation discussed every aspect of the converging market.

"Our keynote and conference speakers were comprised of top executives from leading telecom companies. The aggressive approach that each of their companies is taking in the telecom market reflects the approach we are taking with the show," Telecom Business(TM) president Marc Ostrofsky said. "This show recognizes the convergence of the marketplace and the elements crucial for success. Telecom Business navigates that convergence and unites all facets of this industry."

Telecom Business '99 Anaheim, which will again feature IP Telephony and be co-located with TeleCard World '99, is scheduled for March 29-31, 1999 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The conference and exposition will return to New York at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, August 24-26, 1999. About MultiMedia Publishing Corp.

MultiMedia Publishing Corporation was established in 1986. The company publishes Telecom Business(TM) and TeleCard World(TM) monthly and holds two conferences and expositions yearly. SecurFone America, Inc. Introduces Java-Based Internet Telephony Software, SCIES Fone Express, to Create Web-Based
Building Block for Carriers, ISPs, and Corporate Users

October 7, 1998 SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge
Corporation -- Java-based Application Uses a
Single IP Link to Provide Multi-line, Full
Featured Telephone and Facsimile Services
over the Public Internet and Corporate Intranets

SecurFone America, Inc. (OTC/BB: SFAI)
today announced the availability of SCIES
Fone Express(SM), Version 1.0, a Java-based
Internet Telephony software application
providing users with a PC-based three-line,
full-featured virtual telephone via a single IP
connection. Developed by SCIES, Inc., a
wholly-owned subsidiary of SecurFone,
SCIES Fone Express permits carriers, ISPs,
cable companies, NextGen telcos,
corporations and others to create Voice over
IP ( "VOIP") services and applications for
their end-users. SCIES Fone Express
harnesses the power of Internet-based
networks to reduce long distance and
international costs by as much as 60
percent, according to research.

SCIES Fone Express can be used in
conjunction with most leading Internet
telephony gateway vendors to create
commercial VOIP services and advanced
applications on a local, regional or global
basis. The SCIES Fone Express software is a
"thin client" application that supports all
standard PBX functions including multi-line
services, conference calls, call hold, transfer,
last number redial, and many other features.
A unique feature of the new virtual telephone
software is the ability to emulate standard
key telephone functions, such as establishing
three independent voice channels via a single
IP link, and conferencing or transferring calls
as needed on these " virtual lines."

Since SCIES Fone Express is Java-based,
providers can offer enhanced features such
as push technologies for web advertising,
electronic commerce, corporate messaging,
access to billing data, seamless software
upgrading, public directories, among many
others.

"Given that end-users are now quite
comfortable with using the web, a user
simply accesses the SCIES Fone Express
from their browser to place long distance or
international VOIP calls at a fraction of the
cost of using the Public Switched Telephone
Network," said Paul B. Silverman, CEO of
SecurFone America, Inc. "More importantly,
the new SCIES Fone Express application
enables new VOIP applications, such as
global virtual Centrex services providing four
digit access between thousands of global
stations, encrypted voice services, virtual
call centers--we believe these new
applications will reshape how traditional
international voice services are provided,"
said Silverman.

"Given a large multinational may spend in
excess of $200 million a year on average for
long distance and international calls, moving
even a small portion of their existing voice
off of the VPN to their own corporate
intranets using SCIES Fone Express software
provides a significant bottom line impact,"
said Steven Faigen, President of SCIES, Inc.
"Corporations can reduce VPN costs by using
SCIES Fone Express to create a virtual
tie-line network using their Intranets
between locations, thus eliminating long or
international expenses. ISPs can use the
software to support their own ibrandedi
service offering long distance voice and
facsimile to their existing dial up and
corporate customer base."

Evaluation copies of the new software are
being distributed to beta users starting
October 9, 1998, and licensing discussions
are in progress with several organizations.
Commercial release of the new software is
planned for the end of October and copies
can be secured via the SCIES web site.
