Yeadon, thanks for the information. With a little luck, ALA put in a definite bottom. Still looking for low to mid twenties shorter term. Thinking of picking up a few calls. Any idea if ALA might benefit from this IBM/France Telecom arrangement?

regards,

sf

Fidelity Stake In Alcatel Falls Below 5% Says Stk Exchange

Dow Jones Newswires -- October 5, 1998

PARIS (Dow Jones)--U.S. mutual fund Fidelity and its subsidiaries have reduced their combined
stake in Alcatel SA (ALA) to less than 5% of the company's share capital, France's stock market
regulator said Monday.

In a regulatory notice, the Conseil des Marches Financiers said Bermuda-based Fidelity International
Ltd. and Boston-based FMR Corp. (X.FIN) now hold 198.7 million Alcatel shares, or 4.8% of its
capital.

The decline in Fidelity's stake follows an increase in the French telecommunications equipment
supplier's capital and sales of its shares by the U.S. investment group, the CMF said.

Alcatel's shares fell a record 38% Sept. 17 on the Paris stock market after the company surprised
analysts with a profit warning after disappointing first-half results. Fidelity was said to be among the
biggest sellers of the company's shares at the time.

Monday, Alcatel shares led gains in blue-chip stocks with a 6.7% jump to FRF477, up FRF30.
