PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1998--Hewlett-Packard Company today announced an HP Vectra VL PC that delivers great performance, advanced PC manageability and integrated security features, and is expected to sell for an estimated street price of just $2,499 (U.S.).

The new PC, available today, is based on Intel's Pentium(R) II 450MHz processor and 440BX AGPset with 100MHz front-side bus. With new Matrox Millennium G200 AGP 2X graphics loaded with 8MB SGRAM,
Digital Versatile Disk (DVD) drive and SCSI subsystem, it delivers industry-leading storage capacity, flexibility and faster data throughput, making easy work of power-hungry graphics and spreadsheet
applications.

The HP Vectra VL PC includes the latest version of HP TopTools PC-management software, with support for smart-card readers. This support enables IS managers to centrally view those PC clients that have the readers installed. HP TopTools also delivers compatibility with the new Web-Based Enterprise Management
(WBEM) industry standard. For added security, the HP Vectra VL PC comes with an innovative master-pass-key system, which allows IT managers to configure one master PC pass key to access all HP
Vectra PCs for routine hardware upgrades.

HP also announced today its smart-card-ready program for HP Vectra PCs, HP Kayak PC Workstations and HP OmniBook notebook PCs, which begins HP's ProtectTools initiative for secure PC clients (see separate release).

Incorporating all major industry-standard technologies such as DMI 2.0, Wired for Management (WfM) and Remote Power-On/Wake-up, the HP Vectra VL PC provides the long product life cycles, consistent
components and high degree of compatibility that IS managers require to deploy hundreds or thousands of PCs easily across their corporate networks.

HP OpenView Desktop Administrator, included with each HP Vectra VL PC, fully equips IS managers to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through active, centralized control of their networked hardware and
software environments across the enterprise.
