The point was that he successfully day trades stocks other than DELL, and as such it would be specious to think that he knew nothing (or diddly squat) about the stock market. It is one thing to claim to be an expert, it is another to prove that you are not a novice. I was doing the latter.

not as much as you'd think. It will be VERY volatile though. I think most half-hearted shorts will get shaken out before the big plunge. I honestly don't think a daytrader (because of the nature of the coming decline) will be able to catch the drop. My guess is it will be a total surprise when we finally make the move down below 7400 followed by gapping down over several days.

Bilow: ever hear of "substance over form". what you descibed is still a wash sale and thus taxable. Of course, you can try it just like you can try not even reporting any income, but if you're caught in both cases you will pay a penalty
