Dwight, you are right (for the most part). I was only responding to the following message that David Anderson posted:

"House Judiciary Committee just voted for an open-ended impeachment inquiry. All the partisan Democrats voted against it."

I couldn't resist pointing out that all the partisan Republicans had voted FOR it.

It is perhaps utopian to expect bipartisanship of an impeachment inquiry. Hamilton, whom you quote at length, was justifiably concerned about how fair "an intemperate or designing majority in the House of Representatives" would be. As he goes on:

Though this latter supposition may seem harsh, and might not be likely often to be verified, yet it ought not to be forgotten that the demon of faction will, at certain seasons, extend his sceptre over all
numerous bodies of men.

Well, the "demon of faction" has indeed "extended his sceptre" over the House of Representatives right now, over the whole body -- not just over the Democrats in it, but over the "intemperate majority" (the Republicans) as well.

It is not a pretty sight. A plague on all their factions.

P.S. I should not try to respond so late at night. I see I have basically just repeated the points you already made. But I guess they bear some repetition! :-)
