Thanks for your thoughtful response. My experience with the Born Agains has been that they are zealous in their ambition to straighten out what they see as an immoral country that is accumulating God's rath (a very Old Testiment way of viewing God) and that extreme measures are required to "save" our country from God's fury (isn't that funny, I thought the enemy was the Communists). If a President were to be elected that had zealous ideology, would he resign in an effort to push that ideology or would that President use the position to try to force a new morality on the nation? Having a Catholic in the office turned out to not bring the Pope into our political life, but that doesn't rule out somebody actually trying to bring their religion into the office in the future. I think it remains a legitimate concern. Some of the Born Agains I have know would not resign and they would not uphold the Constitution if they felt it conflicted with the whimsical comprehension of God's revealed message to them at any particular moment which is then justified by some Bible verse. I could see an Evangelical President quoting scripture to justify some controversial decision; one that a majority rejects even, or one that is against established law.
