Futures, INTC/DELL news may push NASD higher..

As Intel Debuts Pentium II Xeon, MOT reporting better
than expected may push the markets higher.

Does not matter though, I am more or less numb to any further pains, however agonizing they may be as our portfolios are unlikely to recover any time soon.

Question on: Why delay buyout?

This in in all respects a question, not a challenge. Why is Lucent less likely to buy Ascend due to its decreased stock price, given that ASND has gone down in step with LU? I don't understand the logic here. Yet 'everyone' says that, so I must be missing something. To me, a 1:1 stock price now would be just as attractive to Ascend, and just as pain/ful/less to Lucent, as when their stocks' prices recover.

Help appreciated. TIA.

Souze

What's your opinion on why the stock is past the toilet, and headed for the sewer? Is it still too much reliance to the top and bottom line on older TDM based products? I know the quarterly report sounds glowing, but the growth just hasn't been there.

Newbridge is in the same position Ascend was back in Jan-Feb. They have to prove to the Street they can meet earnings consistently. Two quarters does not cut it for most and they're waiting for the third. The company says they're comfortable with projections and they wouldn't say that if there was any chance they'd disappoint.

Their UB losses have been crippling. They've gone beyond throwing away the crutches, but the Street wants the bone to heal even further.

This is exactly the place where I started buying ASND way back at 22. I then traded a few times over the next 4 or 5 months, and finally got out at 49, thinking it had gotten ahead of itself, and hearing, too, they were out of the running for LU. Nothing from the top, but good enough to make me step to the sidelines.
