Humorous cheap shot - WSJ:

Minneapolis lawyer Marshall Tanick in the National Law Journal, Oct. 5:

According to estimates, some $40 million to $50 million has been spent by Mr. Starr, while related investigations have incurred costs close to $25 million in legal expenses, a substantial portion of which has been picked up by the government. The president and his wife alone have supposedly incurred more than $5 million in legal expenses. The cost of this entire legal venture so far is approaching $100 million, with no end yet in sight.

The vastness of these legal fees is astounding. Just think: a plaintiff's attorney in the tobacco litigation would have to work close to a week, with short lunch breaks, to earn that much.
