Seven Additional Video Game Publishers Pledge Support for Sega's Dreamcast

October 6, 1998 9:07 AM EDT

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1998--The list of third
party video game publishers supporting Sega's(R) Dreamcast(TM), the
ultimate gaming machine, continues to grow.

Sega of America today announced that seven additional video game
publishers are officially supporting the Dreamcast platform. The companies include some of the industry's most prolific publishers -- Accolade(TM), Capcom(TM), Hasbro Interactive(TM), Konami(R), Mindscape(TM), Take 2(TM) and THQ(TM).

The Dreamcast publishers announced today join an elite group of
companies that pledged their support for the system at the Electronic
Entertainment Expo in May. Those companies include Acclaim(TM), GT
Interactive Software(TM), Interplay(TM), Microprose(TM) (a division of
Hasbro Interactive) and Midway(TM).

These companies hold a special place in the world of interactive
entertainment, representing 11 of the top 25 PC and video game publishers in the world today based on overall sales.(a)

All 12 of the announced publishers are currently developing games for
Dreamcast in the genres they know best. Dreamcast launches November 27
in Japan and next fall in North America and Europe.

Dreamcast gives developers the freedom to design video games without
limits. The gaming-specific architecture of the system provides 128-bit 3D graphic performance, 64 channels of sound and a blazing-fast CPU.
Dreamcast will also open doors for publishers to create games that expand far beyond the past definition of console gameplay.

It is the first console to feature multiplayer network gaming capabilities. In addition, the system features a Visual Memory(TM) unit, a portable memory card with a built in LCD screen, allowing game designers to create titles that can literally travel outside the Dreamcast console.

"The announcement of these important video game publishers is yet another milestone we have reached in building toward the North American launch of Dreamcast," said Bernard Stolar, president and COO, Sega of America. "We are confident that all major third party publishers will support Dreamcast."
