JD, that's over the top.

You are right in that a more clear definition of an impeachable offense will emerge from these hearings. IMO, any felony by a sitting president is impeachable. That's the way I read the High Crimes and Misdemeanors, not limited to affairs of state. Although it could be argued that any felony committed by a sitting president is violation of his oath, and as such an affair of state.

Iran-Contra was a drawn out fishing expedition of a policy dispute between the Reagan admin and a partisan congress. Reagan should not have been impeached over it and, obviously, wasn't.
