If I may interject... I know less about TA and more about the Bible! However, a crash of biblical proportions is also not totally crazy given the global outlook. Here is an apocalyptic scenario:

Brazil tanks due to an insufficient IMF bailout
Japan continues to do nothing
The Chinese devalue the Yuan and Hong Kong also cannot hold onto the Dollar peg
Congress fiddles "The Impeachment Concerto" while the Globe burns
Y2K problems start to panic an already panicked market
