Friede Goldman Receives Contract From R&B Falcon

JACKSON, Miss.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1998--Friede Goldman International Inc. (NASDAQ: FGII - news) announced today a contract for its subsidiary Friede Goldman Offshore from Houston-based R&B Falcon for the Phoenix IV jackup rig.

J.L. Holloway, chairman and CEO of Friede Goldman International, said, ''We are pleased to receive another contract for our new shipyard, Friede Goldman Offshore. We have previously announced three projects - all semisubmersible rigs - for this facility.'' Holloway also reported that the shipyard is fully operational following Hurricane Georges.

The Phoenix IV, a Bethlehem design, 200 foot, mat supported cantilevered class rig, is scheduled to arrive at the shipyard later this week with a target departure date of mid November. Friede Goldman is currently working on R&B Falcon's Falcon 100 semisubmersible rig at the HAM Marine shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss.
