Hi Flickerful - - I was thinking about saying it, but I figure MB is too smart a guy not to know about it, and I am way too lazy to track it down, but I remember reading earlier this year that some company in Canada is mining diamonds of a quality to rival DeBeers, which prompted DeBeers to send up a trial balloon that the diamonds it would sell in the future would have a microscopic "DeBeers" engraved on them where it could only be seen with a jeweler's loupe. The problem being, as I understand it, that diamond prices are artificially inflated by controlling the supply, kind of like OPEC and oil prices in the 80's. Or like Russia and gold.
