I wouldn't be surprised if one of the things that came out of the G7 meeting this weekend, behind closed doors, was an understanding with Obuchi, the Japanese PM.

I think Obuchi said his administration was doing all it could. But there is enormous reluctance in the Japanese public, and hence in their parliament, to come out of denial, and admit dramatic action was essential. I think he said even more foreign pressure might help. There's a single Japanes word for it, it's such a staple of how things change there -- it's escaping me at the moment.

I think Obuchi said, in so many words, that extreme foreign verbal pressure on Japan would not be unwelcome.

There is an old saying "if you took x number of economists ......"
You may complete the statement as you wish, but IMO not one knows a helluva lot more than the average guy on this, or other threads, or the man in the street. If they did the the terrible situations(their words) they claim we, and others, are now in would not occur. Also explain how a bunch of nobel prize(small letters) so screwed up the hedge funds they lost billions of dollars, dollars the man in the street will end up eventually repaying. Sinc hedging is a zero sum game, who got the money??? Hire them. I am not an economist and I have not lost near that amount, not even relatively. If I had could I go to uncle Bill, uncle Alan and uncle Bobby for compensation?? So there. My $3.?? billion 2 cents worth. K
