Think about it. In 1997/1998 Intel had virtually no response to the sub 1k. Margins were fat and had to come down. The K6 was on par with the PII.

Now Intel is moving faster than AMD or NSM. Margins have already eroded and will probably become more stable. The PII is now faster than any AMD chip on the market. Xeon/Merced face no competition. Intel's roadmap is more credible than AMD's roadmap and is more aggressive than AMD or NSM's roadmap. Intel has resources while AMD and NSM are accumulating losses.

It will be interesting to see what AMD reports.
