I think there are probably still some technological hurdles for corporate when it comes to telecommuting (there's that damn SI spellcheck again). One of son's friends works as you do, he was corporate for a while at Transamerica, but eventually went to independent contracting at home doing web sites.

Corporates that wish to maintain a high level of worker satisfaction (and consequently retention) will soon find that programs like telecommuting will be as important as "on site daycare" and "fitness programs", if they are to keep a high caliber of employees. People really put a premium on their time and their homes these days.
