In this current climate, you should be able to continue what you did. I posted a message, describing a similar strategy, to that guy who owns a cement business who keeps calling himself a loser. Unfortunately he cannot trade options.
My friend at work played it to perfection this morning (I set my limits too high to sell my calls and too low to buy the puts this morning). He bought AAPL Oct 35 Calls at end of the day yesterday at 1 1/2 (I had a limit buy of 1 1/4 which did not fill - darn) and he sold them with a limit order at just over 2 1/2. He bought DELL DLQJL (can't remember strike) at 1 13/16 this morning in the first dip and sold with a limit order this afternoon with a buck profit. His philosophy is that it is better to get out with a reasonable profit, and soon, rather than wait for the big one. He buys in the money or close to at the money options and is happy with doubling his money, whereas I have held out for, and managed to get almost 10 times my money I have also lost big. My biggest disappointment was buying DELL 100 July's on June 30th for half a buck (when they were heading down to 90 from mid 90's)and selling at 4. They hit 17 when DELL peaked on July 13th or 17th.
